Mac Mini Cloud Backup retrieves one owner’s Google Drive files and Google Photos Takeout archives, stages them on a locally attached drive, and protects them in an encrypted Kopia repository on a second drive.

Backup flow

Designed around verifiable copies

The utility runs on the owner’s Mac Mini. Cloud access is used only to perform the backup workflow described here.

    Retrieve

    Google Drive files and Google Photos Takeout ZIP archives are downloaded to an attached local drive.

  2. 02

    Validate and expand

    Each Photos archive passes a ZIP integrity test before its contents are expanded locally.

  3. 03

    Protect and prove

    The staged data is written to an encrypted Kopia repository, verified, and checked with an isolated restore.

  4. 04

    Remove temporary delivery files

    Only after those proofs pass is the exact processed Takeout ZIP deleted from Google Drive to release quota.

Access boundary

Why the app requests Google Drive access

The app reads Drive content for backup and accesses Google-created Takeout archives delivered into Drive. Google does not provide a narrower Drive permission that can also remove the exact processed Takeout ZIPs, so the OAuth client requests full Drive access.

The workflow does not rename, edit, share or delete ordinary Drive files. Its only remote deletion is limited to a validated Google Takeout ZIP after the local snapshot and restore proof succeeds.
